Foodie's 40th B'day - looking for a private space w/ great drinks and passed food

Hi All! We are throwing a 40th birthday party for a dear friend who loves good food and drinks. We are hoping for a private space (preferably with an outdoor option, but not a deal breaker). We would like to do small plates/passed aps for about 50-75 people. We don't want anything too stuffy or formal, but should be nice. Our top two themes would be either (1) tapas or (2) somewehre we could have raw bar and seafood options. THANKS!

  1. IMO, tapas bars will be better at wine than cocktails.

    One place that comes to mind is the new garden at Maison Premiere in Williamsburg, which is an oyster / absinthe focused bar. They also have cocktails and some noted mixologists on staff.

      1. The Andaz Hotel (near the New York Public Library) has a unique space called Apartment 2E, where I went to an event a few months ago. It's more like a fabulous apartment than a restaurant, with an open kitchen where the chefs interacted with the guests. And it has an outdoor courtyard.

        1. You might start with a good caterer who has relationships with a range of event spaces. I have been to a couple of events in very different spaces where everything was organized by the caterer, KG Fare. Both were great, including very high-quality food and service. I liked their flexibility in creating themes menus to suit the client wishes. I may soon be using them myself.
