La Costa Taqueria & Mariscos - fight off summer heat with chilled seafood - in Oakdale

Coming home from Groveland we were headed to Riverbank and El Ranchito - for old time sakes because we hadn't been there in twenty years or so.....but they are closed on Tuesdays so we backtracked and went back to La Costa in Oakdale which we had passed just a few minutes prior. I remember reading some good things online about it. Standing at the ordering window ( cash only ) the variety of Mariscos looked enticing - we ordered a shrimp cocktail ( $7.00) and a seafood cocktail - ($8.00) both medium sizes ...... they came with a stack of fried corn tortillas and a plate full of saltine packets along with lime wedges. Big bottles of La Tapatia and another hot sauce were on each table.
It's window service with plastic utensils and paper napkins. Beverages were $1.00 for a medium size and refills for 50 cents. We got an horchata and some ice water. The bowls of seafood were nicely chilled and very refreshing - perfect for a summer night. The oyster was sweet and briny, the seafood was a tad more cooked than I prefer but still good ...... the heat level sneaks up on you. all in all, a very nice alternative to the heavier meal that I probably would have ordered if I hadn't gone the seafood route.
