Wife's Big Birthday Trip Need Nantucket Help PLEASE

Ok, here the deal. We have 3 dinners in Nantucket 1st weekend in Aug. I need some specific help to make it as special as I can make it. I have been to Nantucket before as a kid but my wife has not. We are foodies and are willing to splurge within reason but we are looking for "Nantucketness" experience as much as food in our choice of restaurants. Any help really appreciated.

Question 1: We were planning to go to Toppers for 1 dinner, for experience mostly, where should I request we sit inside or out on deck?

Question 2: I am trying to decide between Straight Wharf and Galley Beach for a 2nd dinner. I would guess that Galley wins on location and view but SW wins on food. Any help? Where should I request we sit in both locations?

Questions 3: Le Languedoc or Oran Mor for dinner 3? Thoughts? I understand that Oran Mor has a nice patio table that can be requested but where should we request to sit at LL?

Any other must do food related experiences for our whirlwind Birthday Spectacular Weekend?

Thank you

  1. 1. I'd sit outside at Topper's, weather permitting, obviously. But that's just a personal choice. Inside is nice, too. If it will be dark by the time of your rez, eat inside. Or, get there early and have a drink outside first, then go in.

    2. SW- ask for a table on the back deck. I think they only do one seating out there, and it's 8:00. It is a covered deck, so weather doesn't matter. Nice view, too.
Galley- ask for a table along the "window" (it's roll-down vinyl).
    I don't really know which restaurant I'd prefer. That's a tough one.

    3. If you go to Languedoc, request a table in the front room, preferably along the windows: tables 25, 26, 27, or 28. Do NOT sit in the back. Or, if you are into a more clubby, louder, fun scene, then sit in the bistro off the bar. Same menu, but the room has a different vibe.
Not sure about Oran Mor...haven't been yet this year. Phelana went recently and loved it, and she sat at that patio table. Phelana.....?

    Have fun!

    1. re: ciclista

Ciclista knows Nantucket and knows food. Follow her lead. I fell in even more love with my DSM (Dining Soul Mate) at Oran Mor on the private patio table..it was pure romance.. the food was sublime and service outstanding..

I would agree about deferring to Ciclista, no doubt.

I was at Galley Beach last season, and though the view was stunning (sunset for husbands birthday) I was not impressed by the food, so so (again, this was last season.) This year we will go for a drink on the beach and eat somewhere else, I've been wanting to try Languedoc.
