Special Occasion for 12 in CC (with vegans ...grrr)

scottb2 Jul 20, 2011 11:45 AM

I am looking for a restaurant in CC that can accommodate 12 people (relatively comfortably) and a couple of vegans. My group also has a couple heavy meat eaters and must have a liquor license. Price is not an issue, though if you have any cheaper ideas those would be appreciated too - I need a place for Fri. and Sat. Ethnic food is ok but it needs to be Americanized at least to the point where the waiter speaks English. I have been to most of the well-known restaurants on this blog, so if you rec. one of those, it would be great if you could mention your experience with a big party. Thanks.

Oh and if you have brunch ideas for this group...

Do the pig at Amada and let the vegans order their own tapas. I still think that $38 per person for the pig and the sides is a relative bargain.

If you make the reservation, I would check to see if everyone in the party would be charged for the pig or if the vegans are exempt.

When you say you need a place for Fri. and Sat., do you mean this weekend?

No ... that would really limit things - I have a month.

What comes to mind when I think of the group size is Bistrot la Minette (6th and South) - especially because they have the side room that you might be able to have to yourselves but I don't know about the vegans there. Maybe Zahav?

My thought was Zahav as well. Or, White Dog, but that's in UCity.

University city is fine - we don't mind traveling a bit.

I am afraid that Zahav might be cramped with our size party. Do they have multiple rooms?

Zahav is big, you won't have a problem. That's where I'd go.

Check out Meritage - http://www.meritagephiladelphia.com/c... They do a full vegan tasting menu on Tuesdays. Maybe they would accommodate you on a Fri/Sat with enough notice.

Supper has an upstairs section, and the menu has good variety including good veg options. They do brunch as well.

Supper is a good idea for Brunch - I don't see a lot of vegan option on the dinner menu tho :/

They always have a menu of items from the farm they are partnered with and do veggie stuff nicely; I'm sure they will accommodate vegans even if there isn't something obviously vegan on the menu. Maybe ask them what they can do when you make the res, I'd be surprised if they weren't happy to come up with something.

Well, definitely not on the cheaper end of things but we did a dinner for 13 at Lacroix last fall and it was wonderful. Lacroix had a nice little room that worked great. We had 2 vegetarians with us. I called many places and Lacroix was by far the most flexible with the menu. Most of the other places allowed us to have 3 entrees total, including one of them for the vegetarians so basically the other guests would only have had a choice of two things. Lacroix let us choose among 6 or 8 dishes...something like that. We were thrilled how well it all turned out. I definitely would do another dinner there for a group of 12.
