BERLIN Dinner Suggestions Please:

This will be my 4th visit to Berlin in September.

Usually we're stuck far away from the city.

This time we're staying at this hotel below:

Grand Hotel Esplanade Berlin Lützowufer 15
Berlin-Tiergarten, 10785

http://www.esplanadeberlin.com

Can locals please suggest some nice dinners close by:

-steakhouse

-Italian food

-Asian food

-spot for wine & nice european meal

Thank you in advance,

Stuart

Umm. While you're not exactly in the (new) center of the city, "far away" is a crazy exaggeration. In fact, you are near Schöneberg, Wilmersdorf, Charlottenburg, Kreuzberg, and MItte -- all great neighborhoods with plenty of food options.

Perhaps you can peruse the various Berlin threads as of late, and see if you might not find exactly what you're looking for.

Your the best! Thank you for this reply as you've helped me out in the past years.

Would you include a few suggestions for this trip on here please?

      Danka,

      Stuart

Spots I’ve tried already, any new suggestions closer to my new hotel/area would be greatly appreciated?

trattoria paparazzi - nice comfy spot

entrecôte - schützenstr. 5-nice steaks at this french spot

        Royal Grill was over rated

Henne Chicken was a nice experience

        Vox Sushi, thumbs down

Would love a few new hip spots for wine & steaks, to Italian too?

        Thanks,

        Stuart

I did discover a nice Malaysian meets Thai food restaurant while walking around last year in Berlin. I will return and suggest others to try it, called "MIRCHI" & "AMRIT", its 2 restaurants connected, one is Indian cuisine, other is what I described above.

          www.amrit.de
          and
          www.mirchi.de

I noticed a Mexican restaurant around the corner as well.

It's steakhouses & spots for wine which I need to discover.

          Thanks,

          Stuart

            Hi Stuart,

Glad you liked Amrit/Mirchi. I haven't been in over 10 years or so, as I tend to avoid this particular area & most restaurants catering to tourists. It's certainly not bad food, but it's near impossible to get good Indian food anywhere in town.

My favorite Italian these days is Noi Quattro in the Südstern area. Their vitello tonnato is something to behold, and the prices are decent.

            http://www.noiquattro.de/en/home.php

Enoteca Il Calice in Charlottenburg is a bit pricier, but it might fit your bill of a wine bar / Italian resto.

            http://www.enoiteca-il-calice.de/frontend_en/abend1.php

For steak, I'm very fond of The Bird (best burgers in town), but it might be more 'lively' than what you're looking for, and it's not exactly around the corner from you.

You could try "Filetstück" - they've just opened up a new location closer to where you are staying.

I am not surprised you didn't like Vox Sushi. Once again - a restaurant in one of the epicenters of tourism -- Potsdamer Platz. I wouldn't suggest eating anywhere near there to anybody.

Great sushi at Mr. Hai Kabuki on Olivaer Platz in Wilmersdorf. Go for the lunch deal @9.50 Euro for miso soup, bottomless green tea, and 3 plates.

As always, thank you for this suggestions, I will try them all and share my experiences with you.

One change in plans, our hotel is now sold out, instead I was able to get a suite at this hotel, is this still in the same area as your picks?

Yes, it's practically around the corner from the other hotel.

One last question, a suggestion in my area that's Italian, just good food. I'm not after a fancy spot with small portions and the plate looks like a work of art. I'm after good tasting nice size portions?

                  Thank you,

                  Stuart

You sure are an amazing help, I just made reservations for a few of these spots and will share my experiences with you.

For Filetstueck, you said a new location is near my hotel, which location would that be below:

                      Schönhauser Allee 45, Berlin - 030 48820304
                      or
                      Uhlandstraße 156, Berlin - 030 54469640

Uhland. A Berlin map online might be a great resource in planning, I think.

mirchi/amrit - definitely not a Malaysian restaurant - not one malaysian dish on the menu - modified indian (& not even malaysian indian food unfortunately)

Little Otik is a good spot - Bistro style in Kreuzberg

.HBC - good food/location, very Berlin in that it's difficult to find - through one of the ugliest DDR buildings, also has good bar and artspace

I was about to say the same thing - I think Mirchi/Amrit's sort of Euro-Indian.

                  I've eaten at both:

Amrit is Indian style food, curries, etc..
                  &
Mirchi which I prefer is closer to what our Thai restaurants serve here in the states.
