Best dinner choices in Malone and Saranac Lake?

I'm leading a Lake Champlain - Adirondack bike tour in mid-August, spending a night in each of these towns. The three top choices in Malone seem to be Gallaghers, Villa Fiore, and Sansone’s. Of these, Gallaghers looks a bit more contemporary, Sansone's is traditional Italian (open for 72 years - they must do something right), and the main thing I recall about Villa Fiore is having to walk through three sets of doors to get in, and it felt just a tad stuffy.

In Saranac Lake, the Blue Moon Café is highly regarded. On a scouting trip in May I ate at Nona Fina, which looks classy, but it serves very ordinary Italian food with awful bread, has no draft beer, and only Morelli bottled beer. YMMV

We're walking, so need somewhere in the town center, although I could unload the support van if there is something exceptional further away. I'm not planning to have us all eat together, but like to provide the best local options to my riders. We'll be there mid-week, so hopefully space won't be an issue.

  1. My favorite place by a long stretch in saranac lake is the eat and meet grill. I dont think you mentioned how many are in your party but the dining area is VERY small. They do have a deck off to the side as well. They source out the best stuff the Adirondacks have to offer and present it in a very comfortable and agreeable manner.

    1. I can add my high regards for Blue Moon Café as well, although it's been over a year since we've been there. On a hot day, it can get pretty warm in there, but the food was excellent.

      1. Try the Left Bank Cafe- opened last summer.

        1. We like Little Italy Restaurant in Saranac Lake.
I've been told they also own Nona Fina.
Blue Moon is great and there is a new Asian Buffet open that serves the best Asian bufffet we've ever been to .
The food is fresh, hot, and the place is immaculatly clean.
We tried Casa Del Sol last week,or,rather ,I should say we tried to go to Casa and their flyer said they were open for lunch but the place was locked tight.
Don't you hate places that say that they are open and when you get there you find them closed!
Make sure you get ice cream at Donnelly's.
There was the usual ine when we got there and the line to get ice cream was even longer when we left.
This is one of the best ice creams you'll find in Norhtern New York,or anywhere else ,for that matter.

In Saranac Lake we ate at both the Asian Buffet and Casa del Sol on our June camping vacation to Rollins Pond.

I agree that the Asian Buffet is very good. The food was replenished often and tasty.
I was also impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant. We went on a rainy night and the food and atmosphere was very much what we needed.

We also enjoyed our meal at Casa Del Sol. At Casa I got the Aztec Torta with both red and green sauce and beef filling and was happy with my choice. I got a margarita also, but like the ones at Mexican Connection in Saratoga Springs better.
