I walked by yesterday, paper off the windows and tables and chairs were set up. Someone was doing what looked like some touch up painting.

Incidentally, there's been a construction dumpster in front of the former Joe V's for a week or so now; they're doing serious work to gut the old space and rebuild it. Progress!

Great news! Per South End Patch, the yakitori joint, to be called Zia, is not dead, just slow to birth. Aiming for late September opening. http://southend.patch.com/articles/union-park-tapas-restaurant-delayed

Can't say I have high hopes for that kind of traditional yakitori, but we'll see.

Also, the place is to be called Zai, not Zia -- the Patch reported it both ways, but Hidden Boston got the real scoop.

Just did a search on "Joe V's" to see what was happening in that space. I am beyond excited for this news. Even if it's only a halfway decent imitation of the real thing, I'm glad that this sort of place is opening in the South End rather than another high end continental restaurant.

I've seen very little activity in that space, which I walk by often. I think they finally removed the old Joe V's bottle of crème de banane, so I guess that's something.

Please tell me that the rumor that a Japanese Izakaya is going there is going to happen.

I don't see many signs of construction there, but neither do I see a For Sale sign.
