Casual Dining in Providence?
We're passing through Providence (Brown Univ. area) early Friday evening and are looking for something fun/good/possibly funky...not dressy as the youngest will be in a t shirt. We like good, interesting food and nothing too pricey. Suggestions?

If you walk along Thayer street which is right next to Brown's campus there are several places that are interesting. For interesting good pizza you can get Nice Slice. If you want a more sit down meal there are a few places along there as well. If you have a car and want something in Wayland Square which is only a mile or so from campus, Red Stripe is good and varied. Anything from a salad or burger to something more. My son swears by East side Pockets for a pickup and go type of meal. He loves the falafel!! There is also a new yogurt place along Thayer that sells it by the ounce. That would be a nice dessert.............. Finally, if you drive up to Federal Hill there are a number of Italian places that have great food. And, for dessert try Pastiche!! YUMMY treats and coffee.......

re: rjlebed
Good recs from rjlebed above. I agree about Red Stripe, it's very good, but my only complaint is that it's very loud. They take reservations, which is a plus.
Federal Hill is fun, though the food quality is variable. Sitting outside at one of the places in DePasquale Square, then having dessert at Pastiche, would work for you as well.
