Who's The Best (Old School) Bartender in LA?

EarlyBird Jul 19, 2011 03:36 PM

Besides my wife, who makes the world's best martini, who is the best bartender in Los Angeles, in your opinion?

I'm assuming there are some stooped, greying, red-vested legends in old steak houses, or Musso and Frank, and old establishments someone can point me to. I would like someone who can make a great (real) martini, and who can carefully craft other classic cocktails "the right way."

Suggestions?

There's a very good bartender manning the rails over at Comme Ca, on Melrose off La Cienega.

Tyler Dow used to be at Checkers, and he was excellent. He's since moved over to Eveleigh, but I haven't had a chance to visit him at his new digs.

Don't think Tyler's manning the bar at Eveleigh, is he? I really miss him @ Checkers.

I don't know their names, but I like the old bartenders at the Harbor Room in Playa. They've been there forever.

If you get to Orange County there's a bartender at Prego in Irvine who's been making martini's for many moons and makes a great one! Ask for Dennis.

No question. Mike the bar tender at Dan Tana's. As classic and old school as it gets.

I agree. Mike commands nightly regular customers for a reason.

Nick at St. Felix makes a whisky sour the proper way with an egg white. St. Felix also has some fantastic original cocktails as well
