Brunch/Lunch for a Group in Mendocino Area

So the short of it us we are having a morning destination wedding in tiny Elk, California and we thought we had settled on a place to gather afterwords (about 30 or so of us. Not a formal reception but certainly a large group gathering that would require some set up and coordination). Unfortunately, the place we focused on is having some issues keeping event directors employed which is making us nervous so Im looking for a back up or short notice replacement in the area (within an hours drive if possible) that would work well with groups, has quality food and would be open for brunch or lunch on a Saturday. AND extra bonus points for a place that features local ingredients including local beer! Its a lot to ask in wine country I realize but its our passion. Most of the places Ive found are either dinner only or seem specifically connected to a resort or bed and breakfast (which is fine but I didnt know if there were other options locals are aware of). Thanks for your help...

  1. North Coast Brewery- Ft Bragg , an hour north of Elk has the space, microbrews and very good Southern style recipes.
Looks like they do breakfast, lunch, dinner; not an official brunch.
    It is open on Saturday.

North Coast came to mind for me too: a bit (more than a bit) of a drive, and the food is only ok, IMO, but they are big enough and definitely have the local beer (along with a GREAT stout ice cream, don't miss it!), and your options, as you probably realize, are definitely limited.

    2. Thanks folks. I guess I should have disclosed the place that we are having problems with currently IS in fact North Coast which was EASILY our first choice for this event and one of the factors for coming this far for the wedding but they have gone through 3 event planners in like 9 months and each time the successor had no idea we were on the books so weve had to start over with them twice for this event. So... chances are we will end up there since options are limited and notice is short (although my fiance is talking to the chef at Mendo Bistro who seems to think they could work something out and MacCallum House Inn in Mendocino is willing to do something for a group but they are pretty expensive for what amounts to an informal gathering).

sorry to hear that, how disappointing. MacCallum House is definitely in a different price category. However, Mendo Bistro does get good reports on this board, and I'd definitely consider them if they can handle your group.(as I said, I think the food at North Coast is just ok).
