THX for all suggestions. Appreciate your guidance.
Originally posted "cuz the missus and I were expecting medical appointments at UMC in midmorning. But.....We either had mid afternoon or early morning (fasting) appointments. So getting the times coordinated was a bit of a challenge.
But all suggestions are welcome, and we will explore on our TUS visits.
Thank You for your help and suggestions.AZGrandpa

If you want to try a few places farther out from the UofA here are a few.
Toni's, 22nd st. just west of Wilmot, north side of 22nd. Standard american fare, super fast service.
Happy Rooster, on Sarnoff just north of 22nd. Standard american, huge portions.
Poco & Mom's, 22nd & Kolb next to the old Kolb rd. Tavern, Fantastic New Mexican style breakfast, tons of choices, gotta get there early place is always jammed.
Chaco's, outside of main gate of DMAFB next to Mamma Louisa's on South Craycroft, Mexican and standard breakfast.
These are all locally owned "Mom & Pop" joints, I won't do chains anymore for breakfast.
My all time favorite breakfast place in Tucson was Johnny's, been gone for a long time, can't count the times I stumbled in there after closing the Maverick over 30 years ago. Best damn hashbrowns I've ever ate!-----

Last time I was out there, I really enjoyed Frank's. The style might not suit, though; it's not the same sort of place as I recall the two you mentioned being. Frank's was not in any way frou-frou (I don't remember any gift shops or coffee thermos/carafes left on the table); it was a good working-class diner when I saw it. I'm heading back next month for a couple of days sitting around at Lowe's Ventana Canyon, so I'm looking forward to seeing if Frank's is still as good. Sure hope so.

The Cup Cafe downtown at Hotel Congress is my favorite http://www.hotelcongress.com/
and I also like Ghinni's http://www.ghiniscafe.com/. The Blue Willow is also one of my faves for the Tofu Saute and gift shop ;)-----

re: Erich
Well, last month we were in Tucson and we stopped by Frank's. We both agreed that it was not nearly as good as we remembered - service was still good and prices were low, but the food did nothing in particular for us and the place was not looking good (spills, flies, washrags lying about).
