Marlboro/Manalapan area restaurant news
First, the bad news. Le Peep on Rt. 9 South in Manalapan has closed. We liked it occasionally. Went there yesterday for breakfast. Parking lot seemed awfully empty.
Now the good news.. oh wait, it's actually not that good. Signs in the window proclaimed that coming soon would be an Italian restaurant and brick oven pizzeria. Ho-hum.

On Rt. 79 in Marlboro (south of the intersection where the Asian Food market is opening at the old Acme), there's a new restaurant, though it's not open yet. This one was built from the ground up. It's Fireside Grill & Bar. Website here, though it's not much: http://www.firesidegrillandbar.com/ More info on their Facebook page. Kind of looks like a chain to me, but I'm not sure.

The Firehouse Restaurant (Renaissance Plaza on Rt. 9 North in Marlboro/Englishtown (same plaza as Masala Indian) looks like it's getting ready to open. Still no website, but apparently they're now hiring.

I keep seeing a sign for BBQ at a house on Rt. 537 East (aka Monmouth Rd), heading into Freehold, just past JB's diner. Every time I go by, there's someone right on my tail, and I haven't been able to make note of the phone number on the sign posted there. It says free delivery and advertises chicken and BBQ. I can't find anything on the web. Does anyone have any information?

They opened on this past Monday. We went Thursday night. There was a 20 minute wait. (When we left, the place was REALLY packed).
It was interesting. Waiter brought my wife the wrong soup. No problem, "on the house.", which was nice. Our daughter loves matzoh ball soup, so more for her. I ordered the moussaka. It came with soup, and a decent-sized Greek salad, which was actually very good. When the moussaka arrived, it looked strange, but I started to eat it. That's when I realized.. it wasn't moussaka, it was lasagna. Although it was really good lasagna, I had my heart set on moussaka. At this point, I ate part of the lasagna, and got the moussaka to go (it was very good, but I like All Seasons version a bit better). My wife adored her chicken marsala.
All in all, very good, despite some communication problems in the kitchen. Was not the waiter's fault. We'll be back.
On another note, while The Firehouse Restaurant is not yet open, their Facebook page indicates that the menu will be "American", i.e., burgers, wings, ribs, etc.

It appears no more Kuzu Mediterranean Grill. When I passed by yesterday, their signs had been taken down. A loss because (a) it was not Italian, and (b) the couple of times we ate there, the food was very good.
For nostalgia's sake, Kuzu photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/11863391@N03/sets/72157625568201257/
There was a banner sign saying something like, "Coming soon. New Orleans cuisine." At least the incoming is not Italian either. But it remains to be seen exactly what will be on the menu and, of course, how good the food will be.

re: RGR
It actually looks like Kuzu is moving to Howell... "Coming Soon" signs recently went up on the northbound side of Rt 9, across/the street from Sushi by Kazu...could confuse some people! The new location seems to be significantly smaller than the Manalapan restaurant. However, it's now only 5 mins from my house!

Never mind on the BBQ sign.. finally was able to check it out today.. it's a sign for Pom Pom! What it's doing on 537 is beyond me, unless that house is the owner's or some other employee.

re: wench31
Well, this article says the store will be open in late 2012.. but, it also says ground will be broken within the next month. (And the article is dated March 28).. I haven't seen that happen yet, and we're more than 3 months past the end of March. So, who knows?
