Birthday Cake - Monmouth or Ocean County

My daughter wants a custom cake..not a fancy cake boss cake but she wants to choose the fillings that she wants. I wanted Flakey Tart to do it but apparently they don't customize and only offered a couple of selections none of which were were my daughter wanted. Is Mendokers my only choice. I have been disappointed by every bakery in the area and call me spoiled but I only like Flakey Tart and Carlos at this point. Has anyone been truely successful in choosing birthday cakes where you actually said "this is out of this world" instead of "its all right".

We just celebrated my mom's 60th bday and ordered a custom cake from The Macaroon Shop in Avon... I'm normally not much of a cake person, but believe me when I say this cake was phenomenal! We got a white cake, half raspberry, half strawberry banana filling, w/ whipped cream. It was so light and not overly sweet. Not only did I go back for seconds, but I even took a doggie bag home!

I have heard of this place and for some silly reason always just thought of it as macarrons...will investigate. Thanks.

Delicious Orchards in Colts Neck makes simple custom cakes; you can select your fillings and so forth. Mighty tasty too...if you like whipped cream cakes.

I don't know if they customize, but we got a cake at Cravings in Allenhurst that was yummy! Also, What's for Dessert on 71 in Belmar/Wall does customize. This used to be our go to place, but hasn't been as great lately. That's not much of a recommendation, is it? Compared to other places, it's great!

PS - Summer is perfect for ice cream cake! lol

I just wanted to add that if you are a fan of Coconut Layer Cake The Flaky Tart bakes a dreamy triple layer coconut cake by the slice or to order. I love it ice cold!

I couldnt agree more jhill...that coconut cake is outstanding from the flaky tart! I have also used Abbate in Matawan..a great cannoli cake and I also like their Napoleon Cake. This past weekend I hosted an event with a cake from Mendokers (sp?) really very very good too!

I love everything "Flakey" but alas dd does not want their sublime coconut cake. Mendokers or Macoroon Shop?

Either for a custom cake. Whichever is physically closer for (hot weather) travel time would be my suggestion.

Actually when it comes to La Bonb. I prefer their pies to their cakes. Although price wise their sheetcake prices are pretty value-added.
