Central Oregon Coast - what's best now?

We'll be spending 4 nights next month in Depoe Bay and are looking for 4 good places for dinner between let's say Newport and Lincoln City, or thereabouts. Been to the area many times and in the past have enjoyed Restaurant Beck (Depoe Bay), The Bay House (Lincoln City), Blackfish Cafe (Lincoln City) and Saffron Salmon (Newport). Are these still good? Are there better choices in the area or at least others that we should consider? Thanks!

I was just there (Gleneden Beach) earlier this month and we had dinner at Restaurant Beck. I think our impression was similar to yours last summer: beautiful setting, nice service, nothing wrong with the food but it was just a bit too precious. We all agreed that we weren't sorry we went but didn't need to go back either. My aunt and uncle, who live there summers, like the Bay House for the Small Plates Menu only. I have rarely been disappointed when guided by them but have not been there myself.

For anyone staying in the area who has cooking facilities, you MUST go to Barking Dog Farm (organic produce), a very short drive up along the Siletz River, sign-posted from the highway, and the Crab Pot, just slightly north of the Siletz River, on the left as you head north. The Crab Pot doesn't look like much, I'll grant you, but the fish is pristine and almost without exception was swimming that morning. Most of our dinners came from those two places. There is another great fish market (I forget the name) that also does picnic bench fish and chips type meals on the right just as you come off the Yaquina Bay Bridge going south.

And you asked about dinners, not breakfasts, but I have to say that IMO breakfast at the Otis Cafe is not to be missed. My jeans are very lucky that it is 3000+/- miles away from my house and I can only get there once a year! They do a very solid marionberry pie as well.

I would also urge you not to overlook the charms of a picnic dinner (bread, cheese, cured meats, wine is our picnic of choice) watching the sun set, on the beach or someplace like Boiler Bay (one of our favorites) -- weather permitting, of course! Have a wonderful time, that is a spectacularly gorgeous part of the world, wish I could go back right now.
