101 Noodle Express

Went here a few days ago, and was not really impressed at all. It wasn't bad, it just was not anything special. Maybe the joint is more of a neighborhood place for noodles, some dumplings and the infamous beef roll. The beef roll was good for once, but I don't really see myself craving it again, it sort of reminded me of a dish from another cultural food spectrum that I can't quite put my finger on, but anyways, the pancakes are fried in oil, so that the pancakes are sort of almost like puff-pastry in consistency (I usu. love puff pastry it must be noted) and then wrapped around the filling of thin flank steak pieces and doused with a sweetish sauce (non-soy based) and some onions, and I guess you eat it with your hands, that's what everyone else seemed to be doing.

So beef roll was ok, but afterwards felt way too greasy.

Also, ordered up the shrimp and pumpkin dumplings which I didn't really care for. and some fish dumplings, which were all right. Nothing specials just your garden-variety fish dumplings done competently (as a note, I am one of the fans of Din Tai Fung and prefer the dumplings over there, along with the ones at Dumpling House and Dumpling 10053 to the stuff served here at 101 noodle express). Sadly, I didn't try any of the noodles.

It's not a bad deal though, two can eat for about 25 bucks or so.

This echo's the treatment I got there as well. Rudeness taken to a new level...will never return.

Went to 101 NE for the first time this past weekend. The food was just blah. The service, however, was horrendous! The wait staff couldn't be bothered to educate/introduce a new clientele to the food. English was not spoken nor understood. Everything answer was a "no" - can't do this, can't do that. At one point our waitress picked up a used napkin on the floor and with the same hand along with the crumbled napkin picked up a bowl to give to a nearby table. Yuk! Never again.

        to each his own.
I'm guessing you don't care for shandong food, or the normal beijing food you've had (like the potstickers at deerfield garden). In any case, I agree that DTF is fun, but a different cuisine. Have to go back someday when the wait is shorter.
