BUTTER from the Strauss Family Creamery
Whole Foods used to carry a wonderful brand of butter from the Strauss Dairy in California.:
It seemed to be a very popular item in their stores, and they would often run out around the Holidays and other times, as well; and yet they suddenly stopped carrying it a few months back (all stores, apparently). The dairy website is still up and seems to be functional..
Does anyone have any input on this? The dairy managers in the stores seem to be perplexed by this, as well.
It had a wonderful flavor, and it was the absolute best for baking. I really miss being able to purchase it. It is European style (higher butterfat content, less moisture, grass fed cows, etc.).. Whole Foods has other choices, but none of them are as good as the Strauss butter.
Just curious if anyone out there in Chowhound Land might know anything about this.
This is Liz Scatena, Marketing Manager from Straus Family Creamery. Yep, we are still around. Glad you were able to find our website. Unforunately, on the east coast Whole Foods longer stocks our Butter due to slow sales. We are just as dissapointed as you. Typically, we are only distributed in the western part of the US, however our butter was part of a program of Artisian producers that Whole Foods had, so they took our butter nationally - however that program is no longer around and sales of our butter declined in the east - so it was discontinued. I'm very sorry. There is no other outlet for our butter on the east coast. However, you can buy it online at www.diamondorganics.com - but it is costy. If you take a trip to California someday, look us up and i'd be happy to hook you up with some butter.
