They were on the brink so I wouldn't be surprised if they closed down. Their downfall was the plan to build the mall at Midland and Sheppard in the old flea market. They lost a lot of money on that deal falling through.

I do miss the old Elegantview, it was more convenient than Markham, and we were there at least twice a Month for years... but have not been for a few Months, as the Mood became rather nasty.
      Now I know why.
      Sorry it is gone.

They used their standard ad in the chinese newpapers and announced they were closing due to economic conditions - i think it was around the Father's day weekend. I was surprised since we were still there the week before for Peking duck and lobster.

Elegantview has been struggling for a while and especially since the opening of the Crown Prince a block away. They had to lower their prices on dim sum, etc just to stay in business a bit longer, but I guess a reasonable profit margin was not sustainable. Pity as they were one of the better ones for such a long time and I'll miss them. But admittedly, I've not been around there for quite awhile either.....

The really discounted price they are charging on their seafood coupled with mediocre execution, NO WONDER!
Interesting a place like O'Mei who charges about 2-3 times more on Lobster, fish and prawns...etc manage to thrive!!!
Lastly, the way 'Emperor' is starting to introduce 'cut-throat' special pricing on roasted pigeons, roasted suckling piglets...etc. I'm not surprise they could be next?! On the other hand, 'Yang's' further up the road serves 'even more expensive' food, has expanded with the addition of VIP rooms and is doing awfully well! Go figure??!!

I think part of the explanation/problem? is that there are some owners now with more money than sense (think Casa/Crown) that have the deep pocket resources to squeeze out their competition. Free enterprise....got to love it.

I'm sorry to hear this. It was my Mom's favorite place. In fact, she had a stroke going through the door about 5 years ago and passed away soon after. I am thankful that her last waking moment was happy and on her way to a good meal. It was a very good dim sum place for a long time and passable for dinner but had certainly been surpassed in the Chinese restaurant competition in the area. Still, I'll always hold a place in my heart for it.
