Midtown area dinner with toddler?
I live in Austin but will be staying at the medical center and needs recs for several weeknight dinners in the medical center/rice/midtown area. We have a three year old daughter who is usually fine in most restaurants as long as they ate not super quiet, romantic, formal. We have a car, but need to eat by 5 or 530. I have been reading about tafia but not sure if the service will be too slow. I know there is booth seating in their dining room but wonder if the lounge would accommodate a toddler. Reef sounds interesting. Any recs would be appreciated!

At that time, you should have no problem with a toddler at any restaurant that is open (those with continuous service). If you like cajun seafood, our favorite is Danton's on Montrose, very close to the med center. Also Dolce Vita is not too far for casual but delicious pizza (closed Mondays). There's also a Smashburger on Main in the med center for quick meals. If the three year old likes ice cream (and who doesn't?) Hank's Ice Cream on Main St. right in the med center is often called the best in Houston. Indika (some of the best Indian/Texas fusion) is near Dolce Vita, but may not have toddler friendly food. Reef is loud and the food is good. I like the redfish on the half shell, the soft shell crab appetizer (which should still be in season) and the famous milkshake "no minors." Good luck!

Hungry's and Ruggles in the Rice Village are both family friendly, esp at that time. Quick but good poboys at Antoine's nearby as well.
Thai Sticks, Kam's, and the Black Lab are good near Montrose/Richmond.
Monarch at the Hotel ZaZa is an option, but a little more upscale.
Bistro Jeanne (sp?) on Westheimer as it enters Midtown near Brazos has good Belgian cuisine. BB's Cafe on Montrose near Westheimer has good Cajun-ish fare.
Hope this helps some!
