Steamer Appliance

We are designing a kitchen and a friend told us about a friend who had one installed in her kitchen re-do and loves it.

Our household as well as her friends are vegetarian. We have pretty much stopped using our microwave and it looks as though the steaming appliance does a good job at quick reheating as well as steaming foods.

Mixed reviews from a few years ago on this board and elsewhere. Any input or new products on the market to consider along this line?

    Are you talking about an in-counter combiset steamer like what Gaggenau makes? Or a steam oven like Miele makes? Given a choice, I'd go for the latter again: quite versatile given its size, works beautifully on seafood (irrelevant to you) and can steam cabbage whole if you wanted.

      I don't have a steamer appliance. I simply a bamboo steamer which I put on top on a cookware. I only want to agree with your assertion that steaming can be very healthy and is very good for vegetables. However, it is quiet different than an microwave.

        Thank you for your responses. I was clueless with what she was talking about. Will check out the brands and if they will work with our kitchen design. It just might be a bamboo basket!
