ISO local organic strawberries

Anyone have any leads? There were none at Dufferin last week!

  1. That's because the local strawberry season is pretty much over, except for the ever-bearing varieties that organic growers don't seem to grow. Too bad you missed out -- Ted Thorpe had some great berries for a few weeks at both Dufferin Grove and Riverdale markets.

Better luck next season. A sub-par strawberry year.

The ones I got from Dufferin Grove this year has been a big meh. There were some last week (I got a pint for $5) but you probably arrived too late, things sell out quite fast there.

You didn't miss much. People assume everything you get at farmers markets must be great, a lot of times it's not.

The same stall has them again today at Dufferin Park. Whether they're around by the time you get there is another question.

Cherries, blueberries, raspberries are also available.

    2. I saw some today at the Longo`s on Hwy 7, just east of Woodbine.

Oops! Sorry, not the organic. I guess my reply was one of the unhelpful replies that zed1984 was referring to. :(

      1. There are still some strawberries in Quebec.

        1. wow, some pretty unhelpful replies....Anyway i know for a fact that Kawartha Ecological Growers have had them the last 3 weeks (organic, local)....now i won't lie they weren't as good as my regular fruit guy's berries....his are not sprayed but not certified. He had some last week, but i doubt he would this week. I go to the apple tree market @ Y & E.

What's "unhelpful" about telling someone the season--crappy as it's been--is all but over?

            1. re: Kagemusha

Not sure why zed1984 thinks his comment is any more helpful since he pretty much told us the same thing. Bought some at KEG, but doubt that you can still get them this week. Translation: Season is over don`t know where to buy them now. Just saying...
