Capital Grille Chestnut Hill Re-visited

Last night I hesitantly returned to the Capital Grille after a horrendous Restaurant Week experience. Jeff Dixon, a Managing Partner, called and e-mailed me after my bad experience and apologized profusely, sending me a couple of dining certificates. I e-mailed Jeff yesterday at the last minute to say that I would be coming in for my Anniversary. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we were treated like royalty, they had placed rose petals on our table for the number of years that we were married, they took a picture for us, they brought a piece of flourless chocolate cake with whipped cream and raspberries for dessert, and all of the servers were extremely accommodating and very pleasant. Ok, so the service was great and they were trying really hard but the real test was how would the food be? The answer was that the food was excellent. The bread basket was filled with a brown bread, focaccia and a cracker like bread, all excellent, especially the brown bread. Next we shared the lobster and crab cake also excellent, not too much filling but held together well and served with a nice corn relish. For entrees my wife got the Kona Crusted Sirloin which was cooked perfectly and she loved it. I got the Porcini rubbed Delmonico glazed with balsamic vinegar. It was deliciously prepared to a perfect medium rare. The steaks were huge and had great flavor. For a side we split the roasted mixture of mushrooms, also delicious. I never thought I would be saying this but after last night's experience, I would definitely return and recommend. I also want to give Jeff Dixon a lot of credit for turning a bad experience into a great experience.

  1. I'm happy to hear it all went well. I've been to that CG a number of times, and have always had a v. positive experience. I always order the Kona sirloin, it's great.
