Budget Wedding Rehearsal Dinner near UofT

I'm looking for suggestions for a wedding rehearsal dinner near Trinity College at U of T. There will be about 40 people, and we're looking to spend around 20-25 per person. We're foodies and would love a nice sit down dinner at a fancy place, but the budget won't allow it. We've considered pubs - Bedford Academy, Duke of York but are a little concerned with the bar tab getting out of hand. Can anyone suggest a reasonable place in the Annex/Harbord area?

Cheers & Thanks!

A bit further away...Cafe Taste on Queen West in Parkdale does "wedding receptions" for under $25 pp. I imagine that only includes wine and cheese and nibblies.

I second the Queen and Beaver pub suggestion. Most chinese restaurants will also do something in your budget, even upscale Lai Toh Heen and Pearl Harbourfront.

last night they tweeted that they had a buyout @ $22 pp. Even if it is wine and cheese only that's still a very good deal.

I would also consider Harbord House. You could take over the upstairs, it's pub food but it's always been good when I've been there. Solid selection of taps as well.

You could try Momo's on Harbord. Middle Eastern food, very casual, but there are nice defined spaces that you could take over with a group. Great front and side patios. Try it first.

Master's Buffeteria is located at 310 Bloor West, near U of T, and can handle dinners for 40 people. If you give them a call, you might be able to negotiate a set menu for $20-$25 per person. Master's Buffeteria caters quite a few baptisms and weddings, as well as other group dinners. While it isn't a foodie destination, I've heard good things from friends about the decent quality of their standard Greek Canadian dishes at various functions over the last couple years. http://www.mastersbuffeteriacatering....

While I think it's worth calling Master's Buffeteria to find out if they can do a dinner for $20-$25 per person, I would think it's fairly unlikely you'll find many decent places in/near the Annex willing to do a group dinner for 40 people for less than $30-$35 pp these days. You'll have more decent options if you increase your price a little

Some of the better Chinese restaurants in Chinatown offer group dinners for $20-$25 per person. Rol San has a banquet room in the back. Maybe some other Chowhounds can suggest other decent Chinatown restaurants that can groups that size.

II know Trinity College is at the north end of U of T, but not too far away from the south-west part of the campus is Sidecar in the Bathurst/College area. They do a nice prix-fixe of $25/pp from Sunday to Thursday.
It is fairly small though... so you may take up more than 1/2 or the restaurant (if not more).
