Offseason Roasted Dungeness Crab

My parents are visiting from the East Coast and have their heart set on getting a Dungeness Crab. Any recommendations? Has anyone tried it at Pier 23 or Woodhouse Fish Co? I'd love to do Pier 23 if the weather is good, but not if the crab is subpar. I'd be fine with Berkeley or Oakland recs too. Thanks!

  1. It's not off season--they just aren't local. Suggest you take them somewhere with a tank of live crabs. I'm partial to PPQ Dungeness Island, but Yummy Yummy (both Vietnamese) is good too.

Woodhouse serves very fresh seafood and not much else. The branch on Fillmore has more on the menu than the one in the Castro. The crab in lemon and wine sauce is delicious.

Or stop by Swan Oyster Depot for a crab cocktail.
