Help! Need Restaurant Rec in White Plains for Lunch for Top Execs

HI all - I am at a loss here and I need help. My boss is having a meeting next week with top execs both from our company and another and she will take them to lunch. I need a great place that is a bit more upscale. They no longer like 42 - it takes too long, and are done with BLT and Mortons. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there anything new out there? Thanks!

Thanks kaaassss. Thought about Pranzi - have you been?

      1. re: wincountrygirl

Yes. Twice for dinner. Food is very good, not crazy expensive, good sized portions and for a restaurant open about a month service also is good. Attentive but not smothering.

Sounds good!! Just curious, have you been to La Bocca and how it companres.

          1. re: wincountrygirl

La Bacca is not as good as it once was. The chef left a while ago. I was at Pranzi last night for drinks with friends and the dining room was full and so was the bar. In fact the old White Plains Mayor Joe Delfino came in for dinner with friends.

          2. re: kaaaassss

I went to Pranzi once at lunch. We got there at 12pm and were the only ones in the restaurant. Two other people walked in at 12:30, and by the time we left a group of four was walking in. I don't think it compares at all to the other restaurants you mentioned.

            1. re: tarrytown hound

Thanks for that. Have you been to Serafina?

              1. re: wincountrygirl

I BEG you to skip it!!!! The service was awful, and the food was fair at best.

                  1. re: kaaaassss

No, no. I have not been to Pranzi yet. I was responding to wincountrygirl asking about Serafina. I am pretty sure i posted on our hellacious experience there. I was imploring her to NOT to go Serafina w/ her top execs.

                    1. re: MRS

ok. i haven't been to serafina mainly because i have not heard anything positive.

                      1. re: MRS

Yes Mrs, I remember that post and Serafina is off the table. My boss opted for Pranzi. I'm not going so can't give a full report afterwards, but I will post on how the group like it.

                        1. re: wincountrygirl

Glad you going with Pranzi. Hope they enjoy it. Please get their feedback.

I finally got to Pranzi - my boss took me today for lunch. The service was excellent - caring, friendly from the hostess to the waiter. Food was very fresh and flavorful. I had a simple salad "Composta" with grilled chicken. Every item in this very simple preparation was fresh and tasty - down to the sweet as could be onions. My boss had the Pollo Biano Blu - chicken with eggplant, mozzerella in a sherry sauce and a side of brocolli rabe. It was light and delicious. I will certainly go back - maybe for dinner if I'm in the area, and I totally recommend it.

                              1. re: wincountrygirl

I'm so glad you got to go there yourself and even better that you enjoyed it.

                      2. re: MRS

Yup. Serafina is a prime example of Westchester getting another one of NYC's crappy restaurants and eating it up. It irks me to see the place so crowded each night. I'm sorry you had a bad meal there but not surprised.

                    2. re: tarrytown hound

what are you saying? it's slow so it sucks? it's brand new! you went how was the food?

                      1. re: cubanat

We were there for lunch, and both had a salad with chicken. So, I really can't comment on the food. But if I am going to take time to go out for a nice lunch, I don't want to be the only one in the restaurant. I found it depressing. I have not been to Serafina in White Plains, but used to enjoy the one on the Upper East Side, so I did want to try it despite the bad reviews on here... Sorry!

              2. i've had several executive lunches at Milonga. The food is good, with offerings that meet most requirements. Its served professionally and with appropriate pace. The environment allows for a business discussion or friendly conversation. The staff understands the concept of time. The price points show good judgment in how you spend the company money.

That looks like a wonderful suggestion but it is a bit too far to walk. We are on South Broadway between the Westcheter Mall and the mall with the Outback. Would have been great though!!

                2. Thanks all for your suggestions. They went to Pranzi and were very happy. Yes, Tarry Hound, the place was not crowded, but my boss said the service was excellent and attentive the food fresh and very good and they liked the atmosphere. And, one of the guests was from Italy and she liked the food very much - and she is very picky about "American" Italian. Sorry I can't give more detail, but I was lucky to get this much info. Suffice it to say, my boss says I pick all the restaurants from now on.

I am so happy that you took my suggestion about going to Pranzi. I'm glad your boss and his group were not disappointed.

                    1. re: kaaaassss

I think it will be their new place for business lunches. I will need to try it myself! Thanks kaaaassss!

                      1. re: wincountrygirl

                        1. re: kaaaassss

kaaaassss - so happy you realize my screen hame is winecountrygirl - it came out wincountrygirl when I signed up and I cant figure out how to change it. I'll have to stop by Pranzi for that happy hour!

                          1. re: wincountrygirl

Went to pranzi last Thursday night at 7:30. Place was packed. Smal bar but had about 40 people in entrance area/bar area with a dj playing. dining room in back was also packed, Food was solid. not quite cookery level but very close. loved the sides especially the peas woth guanciale and the campagnola potatoes. caprese pizza was nice but not quite stellar. pastas were good but not quite on level of spadaro or rosa's la scarabitta. SERVICE however was super considering they are fairly new and were jam packed. Some on this board will not like the noise level but hey it's an enoteca so it can be loud! OVERALL a great addition to the local scene but it's in an odd locale. somebody needs to fix up the area behind the 5G's and the mall...that entire drive in /out area feels like a dumpster zone.

                            1. re: cubanat

Wow!!Definitely want to try it!! Always looking for something new that is also good food/good service. I have found that "new" in this area doesn't always mean good!

                              1. re: MRS

They have been open less then two months and the owner Rob and the manager Chris go over and above to make sure customers are happy and welcome. The chef is from Polpo.

                                1. re: kaaaassss

The 2 gentlemen that were in nice suits were very warm & friendly even though the bar scene that night at the entrance was almost to much. they found us in the fray and got us to our table right away which was nice. (hostess was nice as well). Polpo is an odd place & depending on who you talk to it can be a double edged sword. Personally I love it but find it not a great "value." Sometimes it can be amazing and other times mediocre and when paying their prices it should always be as close to stellar as possible. I hope that pranzi can stay strong and not turn into another white plains night club that serves more drinks then plates of pancetta spiked pastas & pizzas.

                                  1. re: cubanat

Pranzi is not anywhere near as expensive as Polpo. I agree with you in hoping that Pranzi does not forsake itself as a good restaurant to turn into a club. It not a large space and I know what you mean about the large crowd in the bar area and the dj.

                                    1. re: kaaaassss

No you're correct, It was not as expensive. Slightly smaller portions maybe but fine for the price. I'm craving the peas and potatoes today actually...
