Birthday dinner for 7 year old?

Hi all! I'm coming to DC with my family and my daughter will turn seven on our trip. Any suggestions for a restaurant that will feel like a fun night out for her? Not too pricey, as we'll have a large group! Thanks!

I took my young kids age 3-9 to Bertucci's in Dupont Circle (1218 Connecticut Avenue) and it was great. Not the best pizza for adults, but not bad, and the kids loved it.

However, I have to add the caution that because that experience went so well I went to the Bertuccis at 2000 Pennsylvania Ave a few months later when I was in the neighborhood and needed a quick dinner with kids. For whatever reason it was bad all around -- service, food, atmosphere -- I won't be going back there again.

Obviously Bertuccis is not the foodie option but I'm thinking about what works for a 7 year old and is not too pricey.

Maybe Ted's Bulletin on Barrack's Row? Great - but not intimidating - food.

        Zorba's in Dupont Circle.

I haven't been before but I bet Comet Pizza would be fun. They have ping pong tables and pizzas with various toppings. Seems like it could be a fun place for a 7 year-old.

Your daughter might also like Hill Country BBQ. It's a huge, active room. You order the food by the pound (1/4 lb, 1/2 lb etc). Sometimes they have live entertainment. Might be fun!

Comet Ping Pong is a great idea! But ... will you have a car? If you don't, you will need to take a bus to get there.

The other places mentioned are near the Gallery Place Metro stop.

You can also take a cab.

I second Carmine's and would also suggest Hill Country BBQ. If she's a chocolate fan, the texas sheet cake would make a fabulous stand-in for birthday cake.

How about Carmine's? Huge portions, served family style. Good for a large group.
