someplace good between E49th and Town Hall?

looking for a place for dinner while walking westward from our hotel (49th between 3rd&Lex)
to a concert at Town Hall.
i was thinking about db Bistro but we are going to be dressed rather casually.
i'm sure there are fun places in Hell's Kitchen but i would prefer not to double back to the concert.
no Greek or Indian; otherwise, all suggestions welcome!

How casually will you be dressed? You do not necessarily need to dress up for bistro moderne. I also like Sushi Zen for great (if expensive) sushi and other Japanese, but it's not a shorts-and-t-shirt place either.

don't worry, we don't wear T-shirts to dinner ANYWHERE. but probably nice jeans.

Nice jeans would be fine at bistro moderne. Most people will be more dressy, but I don't think you'd be uncomfortable. Same with Sushi Zen. Same with the bar room at Aureole, around the corner on 42nd St. Same with the lounge at Oceana, at 49th and 6th. Lots of good choices!

I highly recommend Oceana, our favorite fish/seafood restaurant. Superb food, stellar service, and very pleasant ambiance. It is definitely not necessary to restrict yourself to the lounge if you are wearing jeans as they are perfectly acceptable in the dining room. There is also a very nice patio if you want to dine al fresco.
