King Crab Legs in the area??

Good friends birthday celebration dinner is on tap. He is a lover of the King Crab leg. I was wondering what suggestions the board may have for King Crab in the area. The plan is currently Truluck's. .But willing to try others.

I guess after watching Deadliest Catch I get that they are all processed the same.

Thanks I look forward to the responses

  1. Here is a link to info on King crab, overfishing cautions, viable alternatives, sourced countries and the seafood watch chart.

Each country will have their own processing regulations.

Thanks for the info. Great read. I better understand where these legs come from. I guess the thing I dont understand based on my reading is if Russian Crab is invasive wouldn't overfishing benefit to help eradicate?

Hi Walt.... seems to be a popular current events topic of curiosity.

This is the best fresh seafood market I have found.

        1. In season, both Whole Foods and Central Market have stocked FRESH (boiled on board), not previously frozen Alaskan King Crab legs. At a higher price of course but, well worth it.

Have heard they are fabulous (Central Market) ... price I heard was $38/lb.

That sounds about right to me. And as I said, well worth the "surcharge" for not being previously frozen!
