looking for nice restaurant for birthday dinner for 2 in fort lauderdale/miami area. Wanting a nice hearty meal, worth the price.

If you're still looking, Royal India in Davie is good reasonably-priced Indian. They've been there a long time (for SOFLA anyhow).

I guess my issue is that my bf eats anything regardless if its good or bad (he eats big portions), but I like fine tasty cuisine, so I'm trying to find a nice restaurant with exquisite cuisine and large portions (not small)...I've been reading through the threads and alot of great places are getting reviews of small portions...now im gearing more towards SOBE

Suggest Casa de Angelo in Fort Lauderdale. The portions are large and it is considered an upscale venue with very nice decor and terrific service. Its Italian and has a large menu with many, many specials. Try the apple tart or warm chocolate cake for your birthday treat. Both are wonderful. I would suggest Red if you're thinking about South Beach. Also very nice and has lots of selections. This is a steakhouse but has plenty to choose from. Its trendy and fun....Can't go wrong with either of these in my opinion......

If you like Italian, I highly recommend Valentino's in Fort Lauderdale.

Another nice place for Italian is Sette Bello, also in Fort Lauderdale. If you prefer new American, you might enjoy Johnny V on Las Olas.
