Best LI Farmers Market?

We stopped by the Hicksville farmers market today, there were 6-7 vendors, a few farms, bread place, soap guy, pickle guy and a winery. I was wondering if there are other markets that have more vendors. I guess after visiting VT earlier this summer, I've gotten spoiled by the Saturday markets up there. I'm not expecting something like union square, but something a little more substantial would be nice. Doesn't need to be in eastern nassau/western suffolk. we'll drive if it's worth it.

I wouldn't say it's worth the trip way out east, but Greenport now has a Farmer's Market on Saturday's from 8am-Noon. They have lots of local organic and non-organic produce from farms, bread from Blue Duck and cheese (Catapano) and other goodies, and every week there is another winery. It's a nice thing to have, but they are all things you could hit up on the way to the market!

I like the convenience of the Greenport market. On that subject, can I hear opinions of the bread from the Blue Duck? Suggestions on where to buy great whole grain bread and great baguettes on the eastern North Fork are also welcome! NOT going to buy TomCat bread fromSang Lee at their outrageous markup!

Junda in Jamesport bakes some great bread and their pastries are "to die for" especially the apple strudel.

Junda is where I would go, too.

I'm a big fan of Blue Duck's breads--I think that's their greatest strength; I especially love their sunflower loaf.

Did you know that you can get Tom Cat bread at Best Yet in Riverhead, for a couple of bucks?

Best Yet does have decent bread and great produce and meat.
Lots of character (and characters) too. I prefer it over Wald, S&S and the KIng.

Thanks, all. Jamesport is a bit far west for me but I will try Junda's when en route from NF to NYC. Will certainly pay Blue Duck a visit soon for their breads.

The health food store on Front Street in Greenport also sells some TomCat breads but they do not get daily delivery. In case anyone is interested..

If you're free on Friday mornings, I'm sort of partial to the market at Nick and Toni's in East Hampton. Not humongous, but you can find fresh fish and shellfish, local honey, wild mushrooms, local cow cheeses and other surprises besides the usual produce. I know it's a ride, but if you don't hit traffic it can be a gorgeous one.

Just read in the local paper that there is a new Farmers Market in Flanders.

Well, that and the Friday fish guy makes it a destination! Where is it, at the duck?

My vote for the best goes to the one at Westhampton Beach (Sat., 9-1). A lot of selections there, which isn't a surprise given that the east is richer with farms and ships.

Closer, the one I frequent the most is the one in Deer Park (Tanger mall). It's a mall, which means very high traffic, making it appealing for the vendors. Still, it's under 20 vendors. I blab about it here:

So, I'd give Westhampton a shot first. And, please, please, please, do try the Pizza there! (Best on LI

For something closer, give Deer Park a shot (Saturdays seems to be better than Sundays).

                Westhampton farmers market is excellent.
BUT: Brunetti pizza??? Yikes!! Soggy crust and way overpriced.
The closest the East End has to great thin crust NYC pizza is on the North Fork @ Grana in Jamesport.
