raw cauliflower salad - polish style, with mayo?

so - i had an amazing cauliflower salad at a polish bar a couple weeks ago.

it was very, very small pieces of raw cauliflower, dressed simply with mayonnaise and spices, with a little fresh dill.

does anyone have a recipe? i've approximated a version using greek yogurt, mayo, dill, salt, pepper, and garlic - but it seems to be missing something. (still pretty good though.)

My Polish grandma made it with celery seed, salt, pepper, dill, garlic, and sour cream. No mayo. Often sliced onions were in there too, which is tasty. They didn't use mayo but they really didn't have it. Mayo had to be homemade and there were no blenders, etc. and even Polish grandmas ran out of time. It might be a nice addition.

      Yes! YES!

That's what it's missing... celery seed (celery salt)... ! THAT IS IT! thank you so much.

yeah - i used the mayo and yogurt as my fake out for sour cream... it was an approximation at best :) i think i need to make it again. i should add onions, too... maybe grate them? i love the itty bitty texture of the raw cauliflower - so scrumptious.

      thanks, guys!

Glad to be of help. It was purely a guess on my part. I like celery seed in cole slaw. Believe it or not, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage are all the same species, just phenotypic variations like breeds of dogs.

My field of study was genetics, but I did not wish to get too technical at this site.

My mom says celery salt and sour cream. She never had mayonnaise growing up.

Also make sure to use fresh garlic as well as white pepper so you don't see flecks of black...

        Mustard and celery seed?

Knowing Polish food, I wonder if it had sour cream in it. That would add a little tang.

I've never seen such a thing, but I love cauliflower and it sounds great. I wonder if you might need some vinegar in there? I'd consider some sugar, too. My favorite broccoli slaw dressing is mayo, buttermilk, cider vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper.

yes - totally! that's how i make my broccoli slaw too... but instead of cider vinegar, i use rice vinegar (its always sitting around my house anyway) and throw in some raw garlic, too.

cauliflower over broccoli is sort of a nice change - theyre both great raw, but i cut the cauliflower super tiny (like, 1 cm pieces) this time and the texture was amazing.
