Cold ramen?

It's been hot lately and I decided to take mom and myself out to get a nice cold bowl of somen or soba.
Drove out to Umemura in Gardena. Discovered they didn't serve either so we decided to give #17 on their menu a shot. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_RI2u360vL_8... We both really liked it. Neither one of us had heard of it before. The noodles were nice with a bit of chewiness and the liquid has a nice little bit of tanginess (mirin or rice vinegar, I think). There was one slice of chashu some julienne cucumber, barley sprouts, benishoga (picked red ginger), corn kernels, seaweed, and topped with half a boiled egg with some sesame seeds sprinkled on top. There was a healthy smear of Colman's mustard on the edge of the large glass bowl. Anybody know of other places that do such a dish? If it's convenient enough of a location, I'd probably give it a shot.

for excellent cold soba (and hot, too) and udon, along with great sushi and other japanese delicacies (e.g. homemade tofu) - try yabu on pico, in west LA.

I'd also suggest trying Vietnamese Bun. It's a chilled noodle salad with fresh herbs, a light dressing and your choice of toppings. Fabulous in hot times!

Or the cold neng myun noodle soup at Korean restaurants. I had that the other night, and while the version wasn't that good, it was still refreshing.

As long as we are mentioning other variations of cold noodles, might I suggest the cold sesame chicken noodle at 101 Noodle Express? Or even the ice noodles at JTYH.

if you're in the mood for somen or soba, try ichimiann.

ramen california makes a pretty good tsukemen, oddly enough, and so does santouka. horon, chabuya, chin-ma-ya, and daikokuya also have it on their menu.

Cold ramen is usually served during the summer time and it's called hiyashi chuka. TonChan in San Gabriel also serves it and it was really good.

If you're in the Southbay area try Horon on 182nd street in Torrance during lunch. Horon's prices are really cheap and the cold ramen was only $7 including tax and tip!

Thanks for the feedback XI. That's 2 positive feedback on TC's HC in a week. If I didn't love Taiwanese chicken cold noodles so much, I'd be there for dinner.

Ramen Yamadaya has tsukemen on their menu. I haven't tried it - the night we went (about a month ago), a cold wind was blowing down 182nd, so a big hot bowl of ramen was in order. RY is in the process of opening a Culver City branch on Washington, a short block east of Sepulveda (where Markie D's used to be).

I recall reading on this board that tsukemen is quite popular in Japan, and that it is becoming more so here as well. It wouldn't surprise me if more of the notable ramen joints might be offering this as well.
