My GF is visiting Newport with her retired folks for a week.. She called tonight desperate for chowhound picks for good restaurants in the area.. Folks are on a fixed budget so she's looking for fresh, good quality and affordable seafood, Italian, Chinese.... Thx all!!

Sardellas has a neighborhood menu early weekdays. from their site: Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Sardella’s offers dinner for two with a bottle of wine for $24.00. Without the wine, the dinner for two special is $14.00!
Puerini's is BYO during the week. Cuts down on cost. Very good Italian. Outdoor patio.
You can get reasonable plates at Salvation Cafe, Perro Salado and The Fifth Element too. I believe Salvation Cafe is on Restaurant.com for weekday only GCs.
Salas' is as local as it gets (go Upstairs, not down). Try the white clam or oriental spag - almost like a lo mein, and made in honor of the original owner who was Guamanian (wife was Italian). Their clam boils are reasonable as well. If the seafood chowders on the menu, get it.

For seafood check out Flo's across from 1st beach (counter service downstairs, menu service upstairs) or Anthony's (counter service) in Middletown. Could share a pizza at Nikolas on Memorial where they have nice outdoor seating.
