Guatemalan Style Tacos
I recently went on a trip to Guatemala and Honduras, and had the best tacos of my life. They were generally a form of al pastor from what I could tell, but they were prepared with about 5 or 6 different condiments. A saucy avocado, a verde sauce, some sort of pico, and other various things. But they almost always had at least 3 or 4 ocndiments on top. Is there anywhere like that in San Fran? Even the al pastor at Taq. San Jose doesnt do it for me anymore =(

There are some Guatemalan restaurants on Mission St. I'd take a stroll southward from 16th St. along the west side of Mission and you might come across something.

San Miguel, the Guatemalan on Mission I'd recommend is just north of 29th Street. Their family has a cart at 16th Street BART, but otherwise, that's a long walk from 16th. Great spicy shrimp tostadas.
Which other Guatemalan restaurants are you thinking of?
El Paisa, the only Honduran restaurant I know of, is a block south of San Miguel on the opposite side of the street. I haven't been there though. Someone was just recommending it on another thread.

If they were spicy, they weren't a Guatemalan dish. Guatemalans eschew spice mostly. Most of the Central American joints in the Bay Area also offer a Mexican menu out of necessity.
A Guatemalan taco is rolled and fried like a Mexican taquito. Is that what you are looking for?

Or are you looking for gringas which are the closest thing to a Mexican taco. However, I've never seen them with anything but ground beef.

Or tortillas con carne?

Al Pastor isn't a Guatemalan thing. After a year of living there, I only saw it at Mexican restaurants in Guatemala.Pork is usually grilled, deep-fired or stewed. Also, the pork is better in Central America which probably upped the deliciousness a bit.
I ask because you might have a better chance of finding them if you use the right term. As mentioned above, lots of local GT joints need to serve Mexican food to survive. So a search for tacos might not get you what you are looking for.
Has anyone tried or looked at the Gautemalan menu at Naples Pizzaria on Geneva?

re: Windy
Retraced my steps today. I was a little off. The two I spotted were actually past Mission Chinese Food, but north of 19th. "Palacio Latino" bills itself as "Cocina Guatemalteca" and Acaxutla as "Especialidad En Comida Guatamalteca y Salvadoreña." I didn't go in to check the menus.
