a surprise at Tastee Freez
A few weeks ago, a friend and I were traveling in rural VA for a weekend. On Sat. morning, we had breakfast at IHOP - just godawful. A horrible omelette, vile hash browns and revolting fake orange juice, served over lots of ice. So on Sun., we knew where we were NOT going to eat. There wasn't much else around, so we really didn't know where to go. We passed a sad-looking, run-down Tastee Freez and pulled over as there were a couple of cars parked in the lot. They served breakfast, so we decided to give it a shot. They had my favorite breakfast item on the menu - a breakfast sandwich with egg, bacon and cheese. The 90 year old counter person said, "white bread?" I asked what the choices were. "White bread, wheat bread, hamburger bun and biscuit." I'm really picky about biscuits and figured it would be awful, but I chanced it, and got it on a biscuit. When it came out, it looked surprisingly good. I bit into it and was stunned by how delicious it was! The biscuit was divine - you could have knocked me over with a feather. The sandwich had obviously been made fresh and was piping hot. I immediately ordered a second one.
I've thought about it several times since. Lucky for me there is no Tastee Freez near me or I'd be in there WAY too often!
