Seeking breakfast between Philadelphia & Piittsburgh

Hi -- does anyone know of a really good breakfast stop between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh? Somewhere about halfway would be ideal, but at this point, we won't be that fussy.

We'll be stopping early a.m. with two hungry teenage boys. Hoping to find a great diner or family restaurant with good, home made style food, Don't want to stray far from the Turnpike or spend a lot of $$$$ in a swanky B&B..

I've been "googling" but I'm amazed that I'm not coming up with any results along these lines (Here's an untapped market!!).

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!!

  1. I would assume that you'll be on the PA Turnpike (I-76) - my recommendation is Middlesex Diner about a mile or two north on Route 11 from exit 236 in Carlisle.

It doesn't get much more home style Pennsylvania diner than this place - breakfast is good, cheap and filling.

Yes, we will be on the PA Turnpike. It is exactly what I was hoping to find. Thank you!!

    2. We've had good breakfast at the Capital Diner on Eisenhower Blvd. in Harrisburg. Also very close and easy on/off to the turnpike. Exit 247 to I-283N.

      Have a great trip!

Thanks! We'll try that next time around. We had breakfast at the Middlesex Diner in Carlisle yesterday. It was very good. We each had a three egg omelette, and they were very good. It was classic diner atmosphere, populated by locals meeting for breakfast. Our waitress was efficient and very nice. We were in and out in good time, and we were happy with the food and the experience.
