Sorry. They don't exist and, unfortunately, haven't existed for the past 15 years (probably since China Inn closed). I would probably say that California Wok or New Jasmine are the best places that deliver, but that is not a real recommendation. Both are pretty dire.

I should have added that the Sam Woo BBQ at Victory and Sepulveda probably has the best Chinese food in the relative vicinity of Encino (it's a bit close than A&W Seafood in Northridge), but I don't think they deliver. They do have a nice takeout counter for BBQ that is relatively fast.

I came upon your post today, and I wanted to let you know that you made a 77-year old man very happy. My dad was the chef/owner of the original China Inn in Encino (1979-around 1992) and was thrilled that our little place was still remembered.

Not in the Valley very often, but I do remember going there in 1986. (I keep an Excel spreadsheet. of where I've eaten) I think I still have the business card someplace.

I'm glad I made you happy. China Inn was right around the corner from our house and we ate there or got take-out probably once a week. I mourned its closing. It took me a long time to find any hot-and-sour soup or kung pao chicken that came anywhere close to what your dad served there.

Adding one more thought, to the original post. I now live in Sherman Oaks and recommend Bamboo Forest on Magnolia, just east of Kester.

Jwsel, a quick correction. Bamboo Forest is on Burbank (not Magnolia), just east of Kester.

I agree on your recommendation of BF. Great soups (love the shrimp sizzling rice soup), orange anything (chicken, all white meat and really tender, or shrimp), really anything on their menu is tasty and well prepared.

The "Hong Kong 88" on Sepulveda, just north of Burbank
Blvd is IMHO the best Chinese food around in that area and they do deliver

I had forgotten about Hong Kong 88 (didn't they change their name slightly). It was pretty good the first few times I got delivery, but then they changed to a mixed Chinese/Japanese menu and I thought the quality declined a bit. It's still better than California Wok and New Jasmine, though they may not deliver to all of Encino.

It's now called 88 Chinese and Sushi and I had presumed the worst when they changed the name and menu. Menu is not as diverse at it used to be as far as authentic Chinese food goes, but it is clearly better than anything within a several mile radius.

I like Uncle Chen's because they cook healthy. You can request no oil, sugar, cornstarch, or salt. Their spicy eggplant with garlic and chicken is really yummy, IMNSHO.

Uncle Chen's gives Panda Express a good name, Hong Kong 88 on Sepulveda could not justify Chinese, so they added Sushi, just to make sure they are not good at neither.
Actually, if you must, California Wok in the same center as Jerry's Deli at Petit is probably the best by default.
I believe Jasmine is out of business.
Like everything else about Encino, you must travel east to either Sherman Oaks or Studio City for quality dining.

You closest bet for relatively authentic Chinese is A & W BBQ Seafood. It's on the northwest corner of Reseda Blvd. and Sherman Way and it's good.

Apart from its sister restaurant in Northridge, it is the only authentic Chinese in the Valley.

I dunno, I think BBQ Unlimited on Sherman Way in NoHo is pretty authentic.

As a delivery option, Bamboo in Sherman Oaks on Ventura Blvd. is very tasty & reliable w/ a varied menu. I'm not sure how far west (i.e. Encino) they'll deliver though.

We're in Sherman Oaks, by Fashion Square, and the only Chinese delivery we ever get is from California Wok in Encino. If we go out for Chinese in the SFV, it's either Sam Woo or the big A & W.

California Wok's delivery is fast and reliable. I wouldn't call the food "good" in terms of authentic but it's edible if you find what you like. They have never ever gotten an order wrong. It always arrives steaming hot and packaged well, no drips or anything. Also, since there are only two of us and we don't always want leftovers, we like that you can get a half-order of certain items. Items we like are the wor wonton soup, the sesame beef, the orange beef, the string beans, and various combinations of items in lo mein and fried rice. We like their fried rice better than their lo mein. Maybe we tried a chicken dish or two but I'm not a huge fan of chicken in Chinese cooking. For some reason they don't have any pork dishes on the menu.

Have to buck the trend here and put in a good word for the California Wok on Ventura in Encino. Have ordered from there scores of times over the years, and food has ranged from good to excellent. Cha-Cha Chicken is amazing. Garlic Chicken and Garlic shrimp also strong, as well as Kung Pao anything. Noodles so-so ( a little on the greasy side)

One other plus, they always make it to your door in about 20 minutes.

I don't believe no one has mentioned Mandarin king in Granada hills. I think it's on balboa and devonshire. A bit out of the way from encino, but well worth the trip. Best Kung Pao chicken I've had. I know they deliver, but I doubt that far...

Not close to Encino, but in the Valley... Wons Coffee Shop in Van Nuys IMO has the best chinese in the valley. Definately best for take out, it's a total dive, but I love it.

I seem to be the only one to recommend Kung Pao China Bistro. I go to the one in Studio City but the one in Sherman Oaks would probably deliver to Encino

Try Golden Chopsticks at 15466 Ventura Blvd, a couple of blocks west of the 405. Great lunch specials. I am a big fan of their hot and sour soup and kpc.
