Tribeca Grill?
Anyone been to Tribeca Grill lately? Looking to take my husband out for a birthday dinner - he's a real meat and potatoes guy but I'd like someplace other than a "steakhouse". Looked at Gramercy Tavern and Gotham Bar and Grill but couldn't find one appetizer he'd eat - think maytag salad, caesar salad to start.

This. If you can't get into Minetta then Landmarc Tribeca should serve your purpose nicely (I don't care for their TW Center location.) Tribeca Grill is decent, but that's about it.

I took my meat-loving hubby to Churrascaria Tribeca -- a Brazilian steakhouse -- for his birthday some years back. I remember the food being pretty solid (my memory is clouded by many caipirinha) and he thought it was a blast.

I hadn't been to Tribeca Grill in some time. Went in November. Had forgotten how crazy loud it is. Sounds like your husband might appreciate Landmarc, either downtown, not far from Tribeca Grill or, less preferably, the one up at Columbus Circle. The markup on wine is really reasonable and the steaks are more than decent. There's also Wolfgang's, kind of Peter Lugar Jr.
