Northampton Dinner Advice: URGENT

Friends will be visiting us in our new house for the first time and we plan to go out for dinner on Sunday evening (tomorrow!). But we still haven't tried many places in N'hampton and surrounds, so I'm counting on local chowhounds to steer us straight.

Relatively quiet, ability to linger both big pluses. Home before dark (elder eyesight) a priority, which rules out big name places up in Greenfield, Deerfield, etc.

Carmelina's prices look outrageous. Side Street is a possibility, but was a little disappointing last two times. Green Street Café? Union Grill? Mulino's? Other possibilities? TIA, everyone!

Carmelina's is not worth it, and always noisy. and Side Street has been spotty of late, as is Mulino's . Green Street would be my choice . You can park in the Forbes library lot at night.

I agree about Side Street. I live within walking distance of it and only go there for drinks with friends because the food just hasn't been that good. And the last time i ate there they gave me a burger well-done instead of medium rare...but the waitress was so mean I was afraid to tell her. Haven't been to Green Street in years....how is it these days?

I think after all (it's only two other people) that --- for quiet conversation and lingering a long time and reasonable prices--- we'll end up eating at home. I'll make something simple, and get a better bottle of wine.
Thanks for your comments and tips. Green Street will be the first place husband and I will try, just the two of us (especially since there's parking!).
Incidentally, magiesmom, we are now frequent visitors to the Williamsburg Snack Shack, thanks to your and everyone's good advice and directions!
