Sweet Potato Bistro - New Taiwanese in Newton, opening on Monday
Just wanted to let everyone know that the new Taiwanese restaurant in Newton Four Corners, Sweet Potato Bistro, is set to open on Monday (July 11th). This is the location previously occupied by Peking Cuisine, or if you remember way back, by Mandarin Yen.
Their menu seems to include some specifically Taiwanese snacks, such as oyster pancakes and ba-wan. The weekend dim sum menu (http://sweetpotatobistro.com/weekend-...) looks particularly interesting.

Typical blech asian american menu on weekdays....like Chung Shing Yuan which has awesome taiwanese dim sum on weekends but horrible sweet gloppy stuff on weekdays and evening dinners aren't great either :-P
If someone tries this place on weekdays or dinners, I'd like to know if they're any good. The weekend dim sum menu looks good though :-)

re: Spike
Actually their specials look pretty good. :p
The menu isn't totally hideous - at least no general gao in sight. If they execute some of the typical Americanized food well, then it's not a bad option to supplement hopefully the more interesting Taiwanese and Chinese dishes. What really throws me off is the addition of a few Thai dishes. Restaurant seems to have a split personality disorder, without being explicitly pan-Asian.
