Food trucks on Chronicle tonight

  • 5

7:30 pm WCVB channel 5, about the new food trucks in Boston. MODS: Please leave this on the GBA board. It is a local program of no interest outside the Boston area.

  1. I forgot to DVR this, but clips are online now (for how long, I don't know): http://www.thebostonchannel.com/chron...

It's pretty decent, if typically Chronicle-y. They overlooked Staff Meal, a shame.

MC - we caught the tail end (grilled cheese trucks) and we were so struck by how COLD it looked outside when they were filming - we were guessing March b/c people were wearing scarves and there were no leaves on the trees. So, since Staff Meal is a pretty recent addition to the scene, I'm guessing that they filmed it pre-Staff Meal. I agree - it is a shame.

I wondered about when they shot it, too, as there's a bit during the M&M Ribs segment where the reporter, getting a hefty dose of smoke directly from the pit, squeals, "I feel like it's the Fourth of July!"

HA! That's really funny. It ws definitely shot months ago - why they waited so long, I have no idea...

    2. It may have been a repeat, for all I know. But there were leaves and lush grass in some of the segments - one truck (Silver something) that lends checkered picnic blankets to customers so they can lunch al fresco. They must have filmed over many months. I was surprised there was no mention of Speed's, since he was ahead of the curve.

I live in the burbs so have never patronized any of them save Fred's Franks in Wakefield. I am surprised that food trucks are viable year-round ventures in 4-season cities but did note one of the trucks' owner said he was an academic during the rest of the year, and a vendor in summer.
