Where to buy - need good source for short rib meat or other thin sliced beef?

Planning a BBQ in August and would like to marinate up some Kalbi or other similar beef cuts. I know a Mexican Grocery store in the East Bay that has a good butcher counter and a good selection of beef, but was wondering if there are other recommendations.

I've gotten good short ribs, cut for Korean style BBQ at the meat counter in Cal Mart.

A bit high-end but Avedanos told me they can custom-cut with notice and I've asked the nice meat guys at the Noe Valley Whole foods to do custom cuts the day before with no troubles either. I've tried a few places in the Mission with good looking meats but while not bad, they tasted a bit odd.

On this side of the bay, I'd go to Kukje Korean Grocery in Daly City, just off 280. You also have the advantage of their kim chee by the pound salad bar.

(It's a lot less expensive than Avedano's, if not the same caliber of free-range, organic meats.)

This is my favorite Korean grocery ever. Great freshness and great variety of banchan at the salad bar. That being said, I'm an East Bayer now and Koreana plaza is good for Korean cuts of fresh meat.

Koreana is smaller, but usually has better prices than Kukje. Meat quality is pretty comparable.

For Korean-style butchering, it's hard to beat Koreana Plaza.
