Which "nice" restaurants in NYC post calories on the menu?

I suck at estimating calories by food portion, so I love it when restaurants (a bit nicer than Chipotle and the like) post calorie counts. I know Rouge Tomate does, but do any other good restaurants post calories?

  1. I hear you. I usually eat one normal restaurant meal a week (around 2000 calories or so), but the other days of the week, I try to go no more than 500-600 calories, so I am always looking for places that cater to my needs. Rouge Tomate has a reputation for fresh, low-calorie meals, and I am always on the lookout for other kinds of places that post calorie counts. Revd Up Pi, a low calorie pizza place in Murray Hill, posts calorie counts, but this is hardly a nice restaurant, along the lines of what you are specifying, just like Energy Kitchen is not haute cuisine. There was a trend several years ago in many haute restaurants, such as Shun Lee Palace, the Four Seasons, and others, to offer "spa cuisine," but I haven't seen that since the late 80's (there was an article in New York Magazine on that-( http://books.google.com/books?id=LOUC...). If I encounter anything else, I'll send it.

    1. I don't have specific suggestions but my two experiences with Rouge Tomate were not so good. The food may be low in calories but I found it bland and overpriced for what I got.

      1. Not necessarily "nice", but more expensive than super casual places and actually quite good, is Le Pain Quotidien. I personally love their seaweed salad with smoked salmon, which happens to be super low in calories! What I save on the calories there allows me to indulge in a chia seed muffin afterwards :) Their cappuccinos are also pretty tasty.

        1. The Palm; check their menus on their web site. you can find a PDF for each of the NYC locations. The Capital Grill also lists calories

Thanks! I forget about Le Pain Quotidien and did not know about Palm. can a one pound lobster really have only 120 calories? Screw BluePrint, I am going on the lobster diet!

Lobster is shellfish, which is naturally low in calories, while perhaps a little high in cholesterol. But, if you are eating steamed lobster without butter and are sticking to lemon, you won't consume more than 120 calories/pound. Let's say you order a 2 lb. lobster, and have steamed asparagus. That meal ends up being no more than 300 calories.

That gives me an idea- I am doing a modified HCG diet 4/5 days a week (most days, I eat no more than 500 calories, but one day a week I allow myself a restaurant meal with a little bread that totals maybe 2000-2500 calories). Now that I have a greater awareness of where I can eat low-cal, I'll be sticking to my 500 calories a day for the long haul (I need to take off 180 pounds).

shrimp and squid most days has helped me to loose 15% of my body weight in five months. best of luck (oysters also)
