Coupons and Deals- July to August 2011
- The Chowhound Team Jul 6, 2011 02:12 PM
Some people like posts about restaurant deals, and other people loathe them. We're trying a new approach that will hopefully help people on both sides by making deal posts easier to find and easier to ignore.
This thread is now the place to mention local restaurant deals and coupons from sites like Groupon, Living Social, etc. We'll sticky it temporarily until people who post deals are aware it's there, and then allow it to float freely.
A couple of guidelines to keep in mind:
- You may not post deals with a referral link so that you get bonuses or payments for referring people. We know that sometimes that happens by accident, since it's not always clear that you're getting a referral link. We suggest logging out of the deal site and visiting the deal page to get a clean link. Normally, we make it a policy not to edit the content of user's posts without permission, however, in the case of deal threads, by posting, you're giving us permission to edit your link if it contains referral information. We will not edit any other text.
- Our usual insider rules apply ( http://www.chowhound.com/topics/36760... ), so if you're associated with either the deal site or the restaurant, you may not post.
- Please don't post every deal indiscriminately. This is Chowhound, not Cheaphound -- pick deals that you think your fellow hounds will be genuinely interested in, because they're from restaurants worth visiting. And feel free to comment on your experiences with the restaurant or recommend dishes -- more chow tips will make the threads more helpful. And others should feel free to reply and discuss. If we end up with a good sub-thread with more than a few posts going about a specific restaurant, please just use 'report' to flag it, and the mods can split it out to its own thread.
- Restaurants and food-specific businesses only, please, no deals for gyms, spas, etc.
Unfortunately, we can't merge threads, so if people post deals outside of the deal threads, we can't move them to the thread. Please use 'report' to flag them for us, and we'll touch base with the poster to have it reposted.
If you have any questions or comments about these new threads, please jump over to the Site Talk thread: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/7941...
http://www.restaurant.com/ has an 80% off deal where the $25 certificates are only $2 good through July 13. The discount code is BBQ.
There are some that are just cheap but some that are decent chow worthy.
I recently used these for:
Oohs and Aahs,
Today's Living Social deal is for AGAINN - $30 for $60.
1099 New York Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20001
I'm a big fan of restaurant.com too. I'm in the Baltimore area, but some I've enjoyed:
Pho #1 Catonsville
Egyptian Pizza (like the falafel and the grape leaves)
Cazbar (kofta is awesome)
Greektown Grill (gyros and pizza)
Fieldhouse (standard bar food)
Lumbini, though the buffet is an even better deal
Todd Conner's ( I had fresh, delicious food here, and friendly service, then what I think was an anaplyactic reaction to the food but could have been something else. I have no idea what to think.)
La Tavola, though it didn't end up being very cheap. Most edible Italian food in Little Italy, in my opinion.
Would love to hear about other experiences.
oooo that's a good one
Today's Groupon - $19 for $40 worth of food at Portalli's in Ellicott City.
Today's Bloomspot deal is for a pre-fix meal at Mala Tang for two people...$38.
KGB Deals has 50% off at Bistro D'Oc
518 10th St NW, Washington, DC 20004
CEE FINE THAI DINING. I love the place.
CEE's coupon on Restaurant.com is a GREAT offer but it's one of the few disclaimers that says "present coupon when ordering".
If the want to see the coupon when I order, does that mean the food portion or quality will be reduced?
Or am I too skeptical for my own good? Thanks
I've ignored that disclaimer tons of times for that very reason and given the coupon at the end. So far, no one has refused to take it.

Today's Groupon is for Againn on NY Ave ($30 for $60 worth of food)
In my opinion It is very rare to find a restaurant deal worth trying. Unless I really want to try something new saving $25 on a $50 only gets me a fraction of the way towards paying my bill. I drink and therefore dinner can be much more expensive and saving $25 on a restaurant that may stink isn't worth it. Savour is awesome it was once called Village Vines and for a $10 service charge you get 30% off your entire bill.
Other deals I like are for 1/2 priced wine which many DC restaurants offer, but I can not find a good list if anyone knows of one floating around.
My problem is just the opposite. I don't drink (at least I don't drink at restaurant prices), I'm a single diner, and I no longer enjoy stuffing myself. Even at a nice restaurant, I'd have trouble spending $50, so pre-paying $25 isn't of much help.
It's getting harder and harder to find a good $5 lunch. Why aren't there any coupons for that? ;)
$5?! It's hard to find a $10 lunch.
or find a friend to dine with.
and there are "instant" groupons/living social deals that are perfect for lunches - $6 for $10 at whatever place. There are many of them all over the area, just have to look at the instant section.
Amen, MikeR. Amen.
Today's Groupon is for the newly renovated Carmello's Italian Restaurant in old town Manassas.
Today's Living Social deal is for Kushi - $30 for $60.
