This place is less of a restaurant and more of a take out spot.. It's tiny, there are three stools at the counter and a tiny low ceiling loft above with a few tables, it is very cozy..The restaurants vibe is further set by the owner.. A very friendly woman who stands behind the counter doing all of the cooking, the greeting, and speaking with customers..

She welcomes us, shows us the menu on the wall. .Despite a lengthy menu, there only a few options available. This is a good sign to me.. If there are three things being made, they should be good. There is no air conditioning upstairs so, we sit on the one table on the sidewalk, in front of the open restaurant stall. We sit down and drink the homemade lemonade.. it comes out dark, perhaps they use brown sugar.. it is very good.

We ordered three plates of food.. Steamed salmon $19, jerk chicken $13, and curried goat $12.. There is a large menu but, we were informed they only are serving these three things.. Each different protein had the same sides.. A coconut dirty rice with beans, boiled pickled cabbage, and a lettuce salad with golden raisins and a sweet dressing...

The jerk chicken was not very spicy.. the pieces were small.. a drumstick and a small thigh.. Chicken was stewed well, not cooked over coals. I was hoping for it to be spicier, addition of smoke from the charcoal would have been nice.. If they were using scotch bonnet, I would be surprised.

Curried goat was good.. Nothing amazing. A very typical version.. Goat cooked very well, lacked seasoning.. Like most curry dishes, I am sure a spice mixed was used.. It could have used some coconut milk, or some broth, perhaps vegetables in the base.. It was kind of flat.

Steamed salmon was big enough for two.. Salmon done very well. simple steam not much else.

Sides were done well, could have done without the sweet salad. But very good coconut rice and the cabbage was a nice addition..

It is homemade and cared for food..if it were closer to my home, i would order every so often.. definitely would stop in for the lemonade

Nice review, Daniel. As has been noted elsewhere on the board, the Islands is across from the Brooklyn Museum. Always my "go to" spot when I'm in the neighborhood.
