Statesville, NC Eats

I'll be visiting family in Statesville, NC in a week, and I'm looking for some good places to eat in the area. I haven't been there in 7 years and since I've become a Chowhound since my last visit, now I'm wondering if there's anything really good to eat that's around! I'll be with relatives who aren't very adventurous eaters, so just typical "American" food is what I'm mainly looking for, although if there's any recs for really good food that is more ethnic in nature, let me know as well, maybe I can sneak away for a lunch by myself or something. Thanks!

Keaton's is an absolute must do. Maybe more than once... No other way around it. The place is the stereotypical dive, that's part of what makes it so good. You'd be wise to call first to see if they're open, I've known their summer hours to vary somewhat.

You have to read this thread about Keaton's, near Statesville. I've been to this place (several years ago) and it's amazing.
