Looking for prawn crackers (krupuk) to cook at home

  • 5

I'm in Concord NH, and the last I found were in the Chinese supermarket on Amherst in Nashua. I'd like to know if there's anywhere nearer than that to my home, as I'm not down that way very often and it certainly doesn't justify a special trip with the price of gas!! Is anyone aware whether the Spice Center in Manchester has them or any supermarkets in the Concord area? I know that both the North Garden and South Garden restaurants have them as appetizers but it's cheaper to make them at home the way my wife and I munch on them!!

Thanks

Brian

  1. Did you check Saigon Asian Market on Maple St (i think) in Manchester? Driving on S Willow St toward the Mall of NH, it's a left hand turn. There's another in Nashua but it's not on Amherst. Perhaps you stopped at the Thai market.

If you are headed to Portsmouth, you can try Loo's oriental seafood. It's near Fox Run Mall. Small but filled with goodies. I hear you on the price of gas.

It seems I was referring to Lanna Asian Market at 433 Amherst (which may now have moved to 495D Amherst) but when I was there a couple of weeks ago I couldn't find it!!

Many thanks, dfrostnh, called in at the Saigon last week and not only do they have the prawn crackers I was seeking, but also bags of ready cooked crackers (a bag of which my wife and I demolished on the way home!!), and an Indonesian version of kroeppoek that seems expensive but is probably better quality, ie bigger and more prawn meat!!

We just drove past the new location of Lanna today and you can see it from the road (if you're looking on the correct side of the road while driving that is!)
Unfortunately the Saigon Market in Manch is the closest Asian grocery you will find to Concord. There used to be a small one in Concord but went out several years ago. Saigon has a lot, I've heard Lanna has even more selection so will check it out next time (too busy today). Those shrimp chips are truly addictive! And it's fun cooking them, pop in the hot oil and watch it explode!

And I have discovered they also sell a crab equivalent too!!
