Le Select or Steak Frites Bistro?

joluvscards Jul 5, 2011 01:28 PM

We are coming to Toronto in a few weeks. There doesn't seem to be too much on the board about Steak Frites Bistro. Fellow chows which would you choose? Thank you

Le Select, no question, if you're after steak frites.

Le Select, no contest. Great service, best Steak Frites in the city and one of the best patios. Brunch on the patio is very Paris like.

Echoing what others have said, Le Select for sure. If it is a nice night the patio is where it is at!

Though it has been awhile since I've been at Le Select, it's a strong bistro choice - especially if you're staying downtown. But if you're staying uptown, you may want to think twice before braving the construction-plagued traffic to get to Le Select. Steak Frites, on Yonge St. just north of Lawrence Ave., is a solid uptown alternative. Nice room, well-run, good service, wide-ranging bistro menu - I seem to recall two or three different cuts on offer for steak-frites - and good cooking. And comparatively modest prices for a Yonge St. location. Large, attractively-priced wine list, with a goodly number of wines by the glass and half-liter. Indeed, there are at least a half-dozen good French bistros around town, including Le Select and Steak Frites, with not that much difference between any of them.

            What juno said. :)

Seriously, if you are staying uptown, going downtown to Le Select is an unnecessary trip if you are looking for straight up French bistro. And the reverse is true -- if you are staying downtown, there is nothing about Steak Frites Bistro that is worth the trek uptown.
