Orlando Dining Reviews

Thanks to YosemiteSam and other posters for great recommendations. We went to Luma on Park, The Ravenous Pig and Cafe Tu Tu Tango during our Disney World trip last week.

I picked Luma for the food but also the atmosphere and decor. Naturally, my wife wanted to sit outside. At least I got to walk through to use the bathroom which was memorable for the sliding Star Trek-like door and inverted sink. The food was very good. Had an heirloom tomato salad and Duck Confit. Good-sized portions, crispy duck skin with interesting mix of greens and grains. My wife had a salad and her entree escapes me at the moment but it was tasty. We skipped dessert there as nothing appealed to us. We ended up at Gurtzberry a block or so away which has Pinkberry style frozen yogurt. Yum!

Ravenous Pig was nicer than I imagined based on comments here. Was glad I ignored comments about being able to wear shorts there. I could have gotten away with it but would have felt underdressed. I had the hunter salad with tasty sausage and melon while the wife had gatherer salad which was very good. She had the steak frites and I had the southern fried chicken both were very good. Chicken wasn't like my Virginia-born grandma's but was good. I had a nice dark beer the Cigar City Duro ale to wash it down. We skipped dessert again.

Cafe Tu Tu Tango ended up being a huge hit with the entire family which didn't attend the other dinners I mentioned. We ended up going twice. The empanadas and spare ribs were big winners even from folks who are not big meat eaters. The atmosphere is fantastic with artists working inside. We saw a tap dancer one night and a belly dancer another. It is a bit loud but that's part of the fun. We even bought a sketch from one of the artists.

Thanks to everyone for posting here.

Thanks for the report back spike. It helps with future recommendations to know how our provincial view is validated (or not) by visitors.

Also glad it looks like you had three quality experiences - especially the positive one at Cafe Tu Tu Tango. It is a truly underrated option that provides a great experience for families on vacation, which is often lost when locals think about places they like to go on a typical weekend. Plus the food is really good.

I once stood in front of the men's room at Luma for 30 seconds trying to figure out how to open the door and too embarrassed to ask someone. While it is cool I wish places would just focus on functionality and cleanliness on restrooms - you also have no idea how many times I've just guessed on which one to enter when confronted with cute or progressive signs at the doors - like we all know which symbol is male or female or the Italian word for Men when you really need to go.

Also, I think the best options at Ravenous Pig are the salads - so glad you got those as most people tend to skip salads

Awesome! Thank you for posting, it's really neat to see what out of towners like, and get an idea if the advice we give is good for specific situations.

Great choices all around. Especially glad you liked Cafe Tu Tu Tango. I like it over all of the other I-drive restaurants.
