The title says it all. Anyone spotted any in the past few weeks?

There were some at the Union Square Greenmarket on Saturday.

I saw purple gooseberries (the striped kind) at the Greenmarket today from Samascott orchards.

question- are you talking about cape gooseberries ("goldenberries"), which are yellow and related to the tomato (and sold commercially at Garden of Eden and other NYC groceries) or the American gooseberry, which is green and striped (and *not* sold at most of these places)? Which one does Eataly have? What about the Union Square Greenmarket? Just checking before I go on a wild goose(berry) chase downtown...

I believe Eataly has the Cape gooseberry kind (aka ground cherry), which look like this:

I confirmed this morning--they have the husks and are yellow, and in the berry section near the 23rd St entrance. Not the kind the OP seeks.

I discovered this as well, unfortunately *after* trekking down to Eataly (Garden of Eden also has them). But I bought them anyway and made a peach/cape gooseberry open-top pie....delicious!

My office has a greenmarket on Wednesdays, that is sourced (I assume) from local farmers at greenmarket. I bought gooseberries last week, which came from Kerran Farms in New Jersey.

...and great blog post with the gooseberry drinks, by the way, @loratliff!

                Thanks! They were tasty.

Had a beef carpaccio at Roberta's last night with the "husky" variety. Delicious.

I saw regular (green striped) gooseberries at today's market on W. 97th Street ... from Locust Grove. I have not yet seen the "ground cherries" with the paper husks yet though they usually do come to this market.
