I am going to the stock car race track and would like to eat first. WHats popular out there? Something ethnic would be great. THanks.

  1. Taxco (Mexican, Sycamore) and Thai Pavilion (Thai, DeKalb) are great ethnic options.

    1. You'll find more recommendations in these previous discussions for Dekalb:

      1. The Sycamore Speedway is a few miles east of Sycamore on Rte. 64. Almost across the street from the Speedway is old school Sorrento's Ranch, a long time super club that still serves a relish tray. Not exactly ethnic but worthy of a great dining experience at a reasonable price. Heading further east along Rte. 64 towards St Charles is the small town of Campton Hills (Wasco to some) at the intersection of Rte. 64 and La Fox Road. In the complex of new brick buildings behind the Mc Donald's is Old Towne Pub, a sister to the Old Towne Pub in Geneva. It's a sports themed location that on any given early evening is swamped with whole teams of Little League and soccer teams from the near by parks. The food is good and the atmosphere very casual. Also in this area along LaFox Road is Thai Town II and Milano's, neither of which I have been to. Driving a little further east along Rte. 64 at Peck Road and behind a Walgreen's is Tap House Grill, a small brew pub chain. The atmosphere is very casual but the food is top notch. My favorite is the Cuban sandwich but just about anything served with their crisp, hot tater tots!

I just looked at the menu for Tap HOuse Grill and I could find a number of things I want to try!

The food at Tap House Grill is pedestrian at best. Bien Trucha in Geneva is outstanding Mexican fare.

Bien Trucha is not on the way to the Sycamore Speedway. Tap House Grill is 15-20 minutes from the Speedway and on the same road. I think the food is pretty good and diverse and there are no long waits in line like Bien Trucha.

                >> Bien Trucha is not on the way to the Sycamore Speedway.

Since St. Charles is on the way (based on the opening post and title), then Geneva is either also on the way, or not far out of the way.

                1. re: nsxtasy

The OP is asking for places to eat in Sycamore or St Charles which is what I gave them. When someone is going to an event which starts at a specific time, I don't think it is responsible to suggest something that is even further away and generally has a long wait to get in to. That place can be saved for another day when it is more practical.

                  1. re: LikestoEatout

It's still no more than a few minutes out of the way (and maybe not even that). The OP can see the advice about long waits and decide whether or not to consider it. Thanks for posting that.

                2. re: LikestoEatout

Bien Trucha is 3.4 miles from Tap House Grill. Waiting is up to the OP. Personally, I would rather drive a few minutes out of the way for an opportunity to eat someplace interesting rather than eat at a chain-type restaurant. The OP also mentioned an interest in ethnic fare.
